CHANGES ARE COMING.

Dear Readers:

I am a believer in the vast realizable potential of safe, cost-effective thorium - powered nuclear reactors. My belief remains steadfast, as I hope that yours will. Thorium is the future. For a moment though, with your permission, I will deal with the present.

Because of numerous challenges in coordinating my writing and speaking availability, I will be contributing articles for this weblog only on a sporatic basis and not as a regular author. I have enjoyed writing for the management of THORIUM ENERGY, INC., and I will miss it, but scheduling (especially in the current economic environment) has become increasingly demanding.

But alas! I haven't deserted you.

Please get my RSS feeds from each of these other interesting and entertaining sites, and continue to receive my insights into geopolitical economics, futurism, entrepreneurship, self-growth, relationships and communications as well as those that relate to thorium fuel and alternative energy:

I am certain that you will enjoy these articles and offerings.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be heard, and to be appreciated.

See you soon.

Faithfully,

THE THORIUM INDEPENDENCE AND SECURITY ACT OF 2008

Dear Readers:

Senators Reid and Hatch have proposed bold new legislation which would pave the way for thorium energy to be a reality in the United States, and for this country to legitimately begin its withdrawal from enslavement to Big Oil. Thorium Energy, Inc.'s Jack Lifton spoke out in support of the bipartisan bill today. The complete article follows:

http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/thorium-energy-inc-supports-bipartisan/story.aspx?guid=%7B9AAF3896-258C-4C0F-A158-E47232275084%7D&dist=hppr

This is one of the most productive and progressive items of legislation to be proposed in quite a long time, and THORIUM ENERGY, INC. not only endorses the proposed bill, but applauds the visionary legislators who have put aside petty political differences in the interest of doing something wonderful for the United States.

Think Thorium...I told you so!

BEING TANGIBLE

Dear Readers:

Today, U.S. legislators failed to pass a $700 million "bailout" package for the failing banking and investment industries , and the expected occurred:

1. In excess of $1.3 trillion in market value (stocks, bonds and other publicly-traded securities) was lost following the news. In essence, we had a "Black Friday" on Monday. The NASDAQ, the Dow Jones, NYSE, and virtually every other trading forum or investment indexing service cratered under the pressure.

2. Announcements about precipitous increases in home foreclosures, massive joblessness, and a domino effect of cascading business failures screamed through the media.

3. Both political parties blamed each other (because blaming is much easier than actual problem-solving) for the failure to reach an agreement on a rescue package needed to save the entire U.S. economy. If Wall Street fails, Main Street fails -- there is no clear division between the two, as they are symbionts. Besides, you smart folks understand that any bailout is merely temporary symptomatic relief. The underlying system is riddled with gangrenous infection.

4. Widespread pessimism is enhancing this negative wave -- a typical "self-fulfilling prophesy" at work, deepening and expanding the negative spiral. These fears are causing individuals to either A) become paralyzed and completely decision averse, or B) become fanatical liquidators while no purchasers have the willingness or the discretionary capital to buy. Prices plummet to the extent that sellers cannot sell, so they withdraw, and buyers don't want to buy, so they keep their wealth in the form of cash. Ironically, the cost of every service or product of necessity is rising, as consumer wealth is declining, and family incomes are decreasing .

5. Individuals are trying to convert assets to cash (further devaluing the U.S. Dollar, and drying up all of the capital markets), or to gold or foreign currencies. All of the foreign securities markets are experiencing adverse reactions and substantial value losses -- this crisis is worldwide, with the U.S. at its epicenter. We are indeed a world leader!

6. Banks have all but stopped making loans, putting our leverage-powered, low-savings-oriented economy into a state of severe contraction...almost paralysis.

7. Americans are not planners. They react by first reflex, follow fads, and do not prepare for delays and failures. Americans are, by their nature, optimistic, and they tend to believe that all negative events are aberrations. Like the old boxer, they keep coming back regardless of how shattering that last punch was.

Where is the interesting news? Gold is climbing in value, and heralding a rise in the value of tanigibles fueled by a flight to quality. It is almost primal. When institutional markets or economies get shaky, individuals would like to put their wealth in a form where it is tangible. They want to visit it, see it, weight and assay it, touch it, comformt themselves with it.

Generally speaking, it is difficult for the ordinary Main Street investor to get cozy with an option, a derivative, short selling, or fiat money. Humans want TANGIBLE things...teddy bears in bed when it's lights out. We inherently equate value with tangible when pieces of paper (which comprise our 401 K or Roth IRA, or perhaps our Lehman Bros. pension) become worthless overnight.

I haven't mentioned THORIUM, or THORIUM ENERGY, INC. I don't have to. While reading this, you were already making the leap from gold to thorium. There are, of course, some differences...gold has a quoted aftermarket with an accepted pricing mechanism, while thorium is not trading (YET) on any of the major recognized exchanges, despite the growing body of evidence in private deals that its value is increasing steadily.

The other difference is that you can make beautiful necklaces with gold (it is shiny and malleable), and the only thing you can do with plain-looking thorium is power the continuation of civilization.

Thorium is tangible, and it has absolute utility. It represents a true store of value.

Think thorium.

THE FLIGHT TO VALUE - DIGGING THORIUM

Dear Readers:

The capital markets are moved by two principal forces; 1) greed, and 2) fear. Economists tend to substitute words like "risk" and "reward"...but then again, economists are usually salaried, highly academic in their orientation, disclaim any prediction about the future and love to discuss why the markets do what they do after the fact. Most economists like to write a great deal more than they like to invest, also. yet these folks get involved in regulating and de-regulating markets within which they have little "street level" experience. A bit frightening, isn't it? Not unlike the prospect of Dr. Phil selling a hairstyling book. And yes, I was educated as an economist, myself (ulp!). But,

Back on point:

  • These two forces, greed and fear, are consistently the principal underlying factors for every financial decision except for philanthropic giving, which has its own set of special motivations. Put in the form of a question, every investor silently mouths these words: "What can I gain at a certain acceptable level of risk?"

  • When fear of catastrophic loss overshadows the prospect of any opportunistic gain, markets react, sometimes violently. Ultimately, a market is made up of individuals and institutions who make buying and selling decisions. The capital markets in the United States and throughout the various countries of the world which have securities and currency exchanges are in a state of enormous volatility and flux as of ther date of this writing. Investors are scared. Retirement portfolios have been wiped out. Pensions will go unfunded and unpaid. Jobs are being lost. All of the bedrock institutions that held the economy together, either by rumor or by function, are either collapsing, merging (i.e., packing more fertilizer in one bag), or negotiating bailout agreements with government agencies which, themselves have been frighteningly mismanaged or abused.

  • Investment monies have begun moving more consistently into several markets, and appear to be staying invested in those markets on a longer-term basis:

  • 1..... *The precious metals, certificates of ownership of precious metals, and financial instruments backed by precious metals or precious metals markets;

  • 2..... *Euros, and Euro-denominated securities;

  • 3..... *Non-precious metals, and mining and mineral rights. This latter category is expanding because A) the liquid market trading value of these elements or minerals is becoming increasingly well-established through various informal exchanges which are trading in them all over the world, and B) each of these elements or minerals actually has industrial utility. This is to say that these materials can be mined and sold, and their value will generally, speaking be the greater of the informal market trading value, or the price which is determined directly by supply and demand.
Quite obviously, this all bodes well for the future of thorium, as well as for the Rare Earth Elements.

Additionally, more countries, including India, Canada, China, UAE, Dubai, Bahrain, and even the United States are no longer speaking of thorium as a "possible fuel" -- they are all investing increasing efforts, energies and money in perfecting reactor design to optimize the use of thorium as the principal fuel in producing clean atomic power. It is only getting better for thorium's position on the periodic table of the elements. We are beyond theory and into the realm of practical application.

While you are here, there is an article and two blogs which you might well find to be of interest. They are not directly on the subject of thorium, and some of them are a bit dated, but they have one thing in common -- fascinating implications. A FLIGHT TO THE GROUND

Dear Readers:

Have you been reading the news? If not, I would like to take a moment to provide you with a narrowly focused summary:

  1. The US Government has seized control of FANNIE MAE and FREDDIE MAC, the nation's two biggest providers and guarantors of home mortages, in order to keep these failing giants "afloat," lest they precipitate the collapse of the home mortage market, and of the aftermarket for mortgage portfolios and securitized loan packages (which markets have been reduced to a bargain basement of deeply discounted, downgraded paper). Of course, the initial reaction of the capital markets to Government coming in to rescue the housing market, was to rally a bit -- but we all understand what generally happens to quality and accountability when the Government "saves" something; it usually exacerbates and delays the inevitable, and at even greater expense to the economy-at-large;

  2. Lehman Brothers, the nation's fourth largest investment banking firm, has forecast tremendous losses after investment portfolio writedowns, and is discussing a plan to sell off divisions of its operations in order to raise money to meet its obligations -- to remain solvent.This does not bode well for Lehman Brothers, nor does it bode well for either the US debt or equities markets;

  3. The ultimate effect of these telling events is a decrease in the liquidity in the capital markets, a decrease in the value of economic aggregates (the capital value of all stocks and all debt instruments), a decrease in the ranking of the US Dollar versus other hard currencies, and a diminution in the capital formation process in general.

The good news is that a flight of wealth into metals, both precious and non-precious, has already begun, and is further bolstered by the failures in the capital markets and the instabilities in the fossil fuels markets.

While some regard thorium (in its slightly grey oxidized state) to be a tradeable non-precious metal, we, at THORIUM ENERGY, INC. consider it to be most highly precious. We can say this in light of; the ailing capital markets, the worldwide energy crisis caused by dependence upon fossil fuels, and on the high probability that atomic energy fueled through Thorium will continue to be the preferred direction in which all of the smart money seems to be headed.

THE OSCAR MAYER ECONOMIC STRATEGY*

Dear Readers:

Recently, George Bush came out with an aggressive, accusatory announcement, which, of itself was entirely unremarkable in its predictability and consistency. It was notable in its Oscar Mayer Factor* however. He stated that the "Democratic-controlled Congress is responsible for the oil crisis and for the high price of oil because of their resistance to offshore drilling." To me, this is not unlike the recently-released child-molester pointing to the elementary school across the street and saying "Those people are responsible for getting me labelled a sex offender! They shouldn't allow them to build elementary schools near our houses!"

While "Dubbya" may be a molester of a different stripe, his statement has no basis in either logic or fact, and is just about as reasonable as the child molester's lament cited in the preceeding paragraph. And, even worse (or "far worser" in keeping with our President's unique "command" of the English Language), is the ironically self-serving egregiousness of the notion. Some facts:

  • There is, at present, no shortage of oil supply, nor is their anticipated to be an oil shortage within the next ten years based upon current consumption forecasts;

  • Tankers and other storage units are swollen with oil, as they have been for these past several months;

  • Drilling for offshore oil would not yield any appreciable results for five to ten years, and the contracts for the drilling, transport and refinement would go to the same oiligopolists who are controlling and manipulating the oil prices now;

  • Congress is not truly Democratically-controlled. All governmental decisions and functions (including legislative, judicial and law enforcement), are nowformulated, carried out and overseen by the Executive Branch under the guise of National Security, Executive Priviledge or some other dramatic means of bypassing all checks and balances. Congress does little, if anything, except talk and take vacations. In Congress, generally speaking, Republicans are powered by manure, and Democratics are powered by wind. Neither has any policy power, however, at all;

  • The oil crisis was manufactured by a small group of American-based international oil companies acting in collusion with the tacit blessing of the current administration;

  • As a young syndicator of oil exploration deals, our President, raising a great deal of investor money and produced more dry holes than a bargeload of Immodium. People used to joke about this. Other people used to even be jailed (but not necessrily at Gitmo) for that kind of thing. It is good to be a part of a powerful family;

  • Our President wants to put in his "last licks" at the evil Democrats for the benefit of his family's investment interests, and as a lubricant (ahem) to slide Mr. John McCain into the presidency, which could at very least, help the incumbent to maintain some status quo profits in armament, major international construction, and the "awl bidness".

As for THORIUM ENERGY, INC., our philosophy is somewhat simpler. Put succinctly...

FORGET DRILLING AND START DIGGING.

We are winning friends daily. We build bridges instead of fences.

--THORIUM ENERGY, INC.

p.s. Jack Lifton has noted that a promising and propitious pro-thorium article has been posted in a highly-conservative but very well-regarded and extremely popular blog which has been resistant to acknowledge the seriousness of the Thorium Proposition for a long while. http://pajamasmedia.com/instapundit/ is one of the most widely-read and acclaimed conservative blogs in the realm of the Blogosphere. Read the first article entry for August 23rd. Keep thinking Thorium.

*p.p.s. The well-known and oft-used "Oscar Mayer Strategy" has to do with the offering up of baloney for the public's consumption.

IT'S LIKE DEJA VU (ALL OVER AGAIN)

Dear Readers:

In any economy, each variable is dependent upon a series of others. For example, when interest rates (yields) increase, bond prices, and the prices of other fixed-income securities, tend to decline. Additionally, equity securities and variable-rate investments tend to increase in value, and funds go from one "bucket" into another. We are forever switching "buckets" in response to changing economic data and indicators.

In a more sophisticated economy, with a speedier exchange of information, accelerated transactional capability, and complex investments (such as derivatives, futures contracts, and the like), economic responses tend to happen faster and more precipitously. In fact, the economy responds more to expectations than to occurrences. If oil prices rise, speculators jump on the bandwagon (which, by the way, is one of my least favorite metaphors), and actually enhance the effect. Modern markets are studies in propaganda and self-fulfilling prophesies.

A classic example: If you believe that you're in an economic depression, you might help create one. If a great many people feel as you do (let's presume that you have a great deal of influence), a depression will surely ensue, as confidence in the markets is lost, and people start selling out of their investments in a panic. In a sophisticated, complex economy, this collapse happens very quickly and to a greater extent than in the (sigh) good old days of pads and pencils, and meatloaf with mashed potatoes for dinner.

Despite this phenomenon, which has been proven time and time again throughout history, people tend to refuse to accept it. I heard a fellow mention just last week (as he heaved a sigh of relief at the prospect), "I think oil's going to settle down at about $100.00 a barrel. Thank God."

This week oil prices dropped significantly from their meteoric rise of several weeks ago, and Mr. Bernanke of the Fed (who is starting to look more and more like Dr. Andrew Weill) announced that he saw no need to increase interest rates because he felt optimistic that inflation was not significant enough to warrant a monetary policy adjustment.

Suddenly, energy policy is retreating from the front lines as an issue, at least to the perception of the masses. A false sense of security is reducing their anger, their ambition and their initiative, as they retreat back into a new status quo. Why have oil prices dropped? Nobody knows except the few very powerful folks who control it, and who periodically conduct these evil experiments in the price elasticity of demand. I suspect that the oil barons determined that if pushed too much harder for too much longer, people would get quite serious about oil alternatives.

Mark my words (not literally, as that would be a waste of paper and a part of the chain reaction that causes deforestation). Douglas Castle says that the price of oil is going to spike several more times before people get queasy enough to start screaming out for relief again. It is only a matter of time, and the intervals between price run-up incidents will be getting shorter.

I am thankful that this last "lube job" on the Western Nations hurt enough that automakers are changing their design plans, that governmental and private institutions are still investing in alternative fuels and technologies, and that India has broken the stranglehold of the petroleum oiligopoly. Perhaps this time, the oil companies, acting in traditional harmonious collusion, pressed their luck just a bit too far. While the average person on the street is sinking back into contentment, some of the decisionmakers in industry and the public sector have decided that they should be prepared for the next assault.

I am even happier (albeit selfishly) that the number and frequency of inquiries about thorium and thorium-based nuclear technologies are continuing to rise. Apparently, not all of the people can be fooled all of the time.

In the spirit of the Olympics, I say: "Thorium --when you need energy to compete!"

--THORIUM ENERGY, INC.

p.s. The photo above depicts a small group of Americans enjoying a typical weekend, now that all is "well" with the economy. I would reckon that most of these spam-grillers think that Bernanke is a muffler company. But I would never put that in writing. --DC

THORIUM INQUIRIES

Dear Friends:

There are several items of interest pertaining to THORIUM ENERGY, INC., each worthy of note:

  • Serious, albeit quiet inquiries regarding thorium energy as a practical alternative to both fossil fuels and to traditional, uranium-based nuclear reactors have been made in increasing numbers during the course of this past month by a powerful, growing and eclectic assortment of "interested parties," including: NASA, The US Department Of the Navy, The Department of Homeland Security (probably in between rigorous sessions of stripping, frisking, detaining and interrogating "suspicious-looking" elderly women at pre-boarding security checkpoints at our domestic commercial airports), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, several agencies of the United Nations, the United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, every Big Oil company and others. These inquiries have been made to a number of firms and academic centers in the United states, directly to the government of India, and to agencies in the Canadian government. In our estimation, thorium energy has become an accepted reality, and all parties who are net users and net suppliers of energy have developed an increasingly keen interest in either keeping abreast of, or in acquiring interests in thorium or thorium-based nuclear technologies;

  • As discussed in our last post, the number of informal exchanges for trading in non-precious metals has been increasing, and is becoming an alternative capital market for those many persons and entities dispossessed and disillusioned by the economic events of this past year, and disenchanted with the traditional securities exchanges, banks and other financial institutions. These bodes well for the price of thorium, and may ultimately exert a downward pressure on oil prices. This is an example of the inherent genius in entrepreneurial capitalism. Of course the regulators in every country involved are eager to get into these newly-thriving exchanges in order to regulate them. There is no surprise here -- regulation is a big business unto itself. Ultimately, one will have to ask: Who will regulate the regulators? (I'll hold that in reserve for a future post);

  • Several new links have been added to this site. Please take a look, click on the sites of interest, and go for a quick visit. If you would like for us to incorporate any additional links, please let us know via email and we will give your suggestion every consideration. Knowledge is power.

We will keep you apprised of all new developments and informational resources regarding thorium, and thorium technologies.

As always, thank you for thinking thorium.

LIQUID THORIUM

Dear Readers:

LIQUID THORIUM.

It would seem impossible, but yet it is getting ever-closer to reality. Because of the emerging exchanges (throughout the entire world) in non-traditional commodities, and especially those which have generally been inaccessible to smaller investors due to the sheer minimum purchase price thresholds, thorium and other non-precious metals are pushing their way into the financial products marketplace. Thorium and the Rare Earth Elements are attracting a particularly high level of interest.

This new opportunity for more investors to enter the marketplace will likely serve to increase the values of resources and proven reserves of thorium and a large number of other high-utility elements used in various technologies.

Read more about this fast-emerging phenomenon in THE GLOBAL FUTURIST.

CONNECT THE DOTS...

Dear Readers:

This post has been some time in the making. Every time we get ramped up to write it, something important comes out in the media that adds the elements of additional perspective or further credibility to the case for nuclear energy {although some prefer "nu-que-lar" energy, and we are too judicious to mention any names, especially those of persons who are 1) in the "awl bid'ness", and are 2) in a position of national leadership as a kind of sideline} and, more specifically, to the case for Thorium Energy.

THORIUM ENERGY, INC. is a privately-held company which holds very significant resources and reserves of both thorium and Rare Earth Elements. If you are in the Lemhi Pass District, the Company's fortune, and the future of abundant energy lies beneath your feet. Literally.

This post involves the simple and occasionally entertaining exercise of connecting the dots. Children often do this. Adults tend to lose the knack. Sadly, many of them have lost their grasp on the concept of a "straight line"... others can not seem to look at more than two dots without getting dizzy. If you have an interest in your future, and in your childrens' futures, now is a particular time to get back into the knack.

  • There is a recent article about Thorium Power, Inc. (no relation to THORIUM ENERGY, INC.) and its entering into agreements to provide nuclear technology and various other consulting services to the United Arab Emirates. The UAE, as you might recall, became incredibly wealthy because of the oil industry, especially with OPEC's rise to power some years ago as a result of the Western World's dependence upon fossil fuels! Isn't that ironic? Why would oil barons invest so heavily in thorium energy? I suspect that it is because they have seen the future, and it is thorium. Click on the article http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/080801/20080801005461.html?.v=1

  • There is another article (I usually read these while having a glass of warm milk right before bedtime - this practice has gotten me off of sleeping pills) about a temporarily stalled business transaction between British Energy (a large nuclear power provider owned by the British Government and a consortium of financial service companies such as Prudential and Invesco) and France's EDF, a power provider which owns the largest nuclear power plant in the world. While the differences between the parties are as yet unresolved (the British are "disappointed," while the French are "insulted"), the objective was and still is for the British to sell off a significant stake in BE in order to fund additional nuclear power plants. They are prepared to sell off some equity in order to raise funds for more of exactly what their own company does. Why? I suspect that it is because the British are tired of paying exhorbitant prices for petrol at the pumps, and want to take action. Connect the dots. As an American, I believe that the notion of "offshore drilling" is untenable, and I also believe that the American public will start to see this as a business ploy on the part of Big Oil to foster even further dependence, and to thicken their already bulging wallets. As a side note: WE HAVE THORIUM RIGHT HERE. WE ALSO HAVE AN INCREASING INTERNATIONAL MARKET FOR OUR PRODUCT. Read the article by clicking on http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20080801/wl_uk_afp/britainenergynuclearcompanytakeover

  • In other news, the IAEA (the International Atomic Energy Agency) has approved a plan for inspection of India's nuclear power facilities by the United Nations. This brings India and the United States one step closer to breaking an almost thirty-year policy of prohibition of the sale of fissionable nuclear materials to India, which has not signed international non-proliferation treaties. India wants the "hot stuff" in order to initiate powering of of its thorium-based reactors. Connect the dots. Perhaps I'm a bit cynical, but I believe that the US is opening up a better line of communications with India in order to grab hold of India's rapidly-evolving thorium-based technology. If you'd like, read the article by clicking on http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080801/ap_on_re_as/nuclear_india

The world is moving in the direction of pro-nuclear after too much abuse at the hands of the oil barons. And the nuclear community is clearly moving in the direction of Thorium.

p.s. Stay tuned for a post about Lanthanum, a Rare Earth Element of increasing value. Jack Lifton of RESOURCE INVESTOR has written an article worth discussing. Its implications are vast. Even better, its implications are wonderful for the value of THORIUM ENERGY's holdings. -DC

LEARNING FROM HISTORY

Dear Readers:

I have heard it said that "those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

In a telephone conversation with a friend of mine (who happens to reside in an oil-producing nation), he stated:

"You Americans are fools. You knew that you had an oil crisis forty years ago, and yet you have done nothing about it! Your own oil refining companies have dissuaded you from using atomic energy because they want to keep you dependent on oil; they profit while your country goes into an economic recession. You had a crisis in the 70s and in the 80s...and still, you refused to deal with reality.

"You are the richest nation in the world, but your wealth is all buried in the ground, and nobody wants to pick up a shovel. What good is your wealth if you are too fat and lazy to use it? You should be ashamed! "

He was not talking about gold. He was talking about Thorium.

Perhaps our politicians have been shoveling the wrong commodity for too long.

DENIAL, BETRAYAL & STUPIDITY

Dear Readers:

We will not discuss thorium, thorium-powered safe nuclear reactors, the increasing value of THORIUM ENERGY, INC.'s resources and reserves of thorium and the Rare Earth Elements in the rich veins of its properties in the Lemhi Pass District. We won't discuss thorium as a quality investment in a high-utility (a pun!), appreciating commodity. We will not talk about the alternative uses of thorium in radiation shielding, high-tech components, testing devices and the like.

We will not discuss the growing international acceptance of the Thorium Alternative. We will not talk about India, Canada, China, Korea and the Members of the European Union. We will not even touch upon our President's negotiations with India (about Uranium) or Iran (also about Uranium) No. We will limit ourselves to a discussion of "U.S. Energy Proposals" being discussed at present. Hence, ladies and gentlemen, I present, for your amusement {cue drumroll}.....

A SYNOPSIS OF U.S. ENERGY "PROPOSALS" BEING DISCUSSED AT PRESENT

  1. The self-proclaimed inventor of the Internet and self-appointed environmental conscience of the United States, non-candidate (so far) Al Gore has issued a noble challenge to the American people to develop a source of sustainable energy within the next ten years, preferably using wind or solar power. Mr. Gore even went so far as to say (I'm taking a bit of editorial license here and paraphrasing), "Heck. The wind and the sun are always going to be around. We're not going to run out of either of them!" His goal is to eliminate all US dependence on fossil fuels by 2018. In my opinion, he should also offer a big reward to the person or group of persons who accomplish this great feat as a further incentive to getting some push behind this idea. Mr. Gore always amazes me -- the best thing by far, though, is that I no longer feel compelled to have my daughters go to "Ivy League" universities. Al Gore has shown me the end product of an Ivy League education, and, while I don't believe that he will make much headway with his "Energy Challenge", I think he would do a great deal better politically if he would confine himself to other subjects, like climatic change, the benefits of recycling, and getting the most out of compost.LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
  2. President Bush, ever resourceful, and a card-carrying member of the Toastmaster's Club, is eagerly lobbying to lift the bans on offshore oil drilling off of the coast of this country. He already has his lucky pen out -- perhaps he wants to drill the first hole himself. Residents of California, Florida and some other "dangerously" coastal states are understandably upset. While it might be true that if we initiated an aggressive program of offshore drilling we could well be "swimming in oil", (to paraphrase Mr. Bush, who pronounces it "awl" because of his Connecticut roots)...the point of contention here might be that the American People would prefer to be swimming in water. Fool me once...LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
  3. Presidential hopeful John McCain, war hero, cancer survivor and occasional panderer to the Christian Right (but only as necessary) has a clear goal -- he wants 34 nuclear reactors built, up and running within the next twenty years. He is long on ambition and gritty determination, but a bit short on the "how" part of his own proposal.

In the meantime, the scientific community, the environmentalist community and the general public are gravitating toward thorium. Thankfully, so is the US Legislature, who have gotten all of the benefit which they could derive from excusing the tremendous rise in the price of oil and gasoline, and will be relieved of that burden during the next presidency. We should all be looking forward to January, 2009, and to the end of a very powerfully entrenched oiligopoly's absolute and unchecked power.

Thorium (which I promised that I wouldn't mention) is not pie-in-the sky. It is simply the best possibility for ending our enslavement to fossil fuels and to the companies that are heavily invested in interests that are contrary to the safety, prosperity and well-being of the American people. All of this other rhetoric is either denial (a psychological problem), betrayal (a treasonous propensity), or stupidity (a prerequisite for blissful happiness when times are quite difficult).

Faithfully,

THORIUM: POSSIBLE BECOMES PROBABLE

Dear Readers:

Please note these very significant facts and factors regarding thorium's rise to prominence as the most viable and acceptable energy source. We have the opportunity, in these troubled economic times (especially within the United States) to witness a wonderful phenomenon -- a phenomenon that has preceded every major historical event, scientific breakthrough, and cultural revolution -- We observe how the Possible Becomes Probable.

1. COMMENTARY ON INTEREST LEVEL IN THORIUM

The daily frequency of searches relating to thorium on Google, Yahoo! and the other "Top 100" search engines is increasing dramatically. The daily frequency, in the news, of the word "thorium" is increasing dramatically. The daily amount of thorium-related article headlines is increasing dramatically. The vast majority of popular "Green Bloggers" are pro-thorium, and in opposition to the alternatives The major oil companies are forcing an untenable agenda of drilling off of the Florida Panhandle and the coast of California (which cannot survive the environmentalist lobby, or the opinion of the voting public) to keep the U.S. addicted to oil, while they are quietly investing in thorium-related research, ostensibly to either A) try to "bury it." or B) to try to buy in early just in case they lose the power of their current stranglehold on petroleum. Do you hear a bell tolling?

2. COMMENTARY ON THORIUM IN THE INTERNATIONAL NEWS

India's Prime Minister has proclaimed that his principal priority is to create a thorium-fueled economy, independent of outside dependencies. President Bush is conducting discussions with India about our providing them with "seed fuel" for their nuclear reactors, if they agree to UN inspections -- this translates to A) Mr. Bush would like to create a strategic alliance with India, and B) that Mr. Bush and his advisors are aware of India's inevitable role in the safe resurrection of the Nuclear Energy Era, fueled by thorium and a kick-start of fissile material; Mr. Bush would rather that the U.S. supplied it to India, which country is anticipating a tremendous energy crisis because of growth in population and energy consumption per capita, than one of the U.S.' many increasingly emboldened adversaries.

Seen through our eyes, the U.S. is helping India to fuel its conversion to safe nuclear power so that the U.S. may, if necessary, give India license to become the world's major guinea pig, and to become a supplier of thorium to India. . Do you hear a bell tolling? I would strongly advise you to review all of the articles linked below -- sooner, better than later:

Enjoy these telling articles, from three very unrelated sources.

3. PRICE POINTS AND DOLLAR DEVALUATION

The U.S. Dollar is sliding against the Euro and other international currencies. The U.S. is a "bargain basement" for foreign institutional purchasers. Internationally speaking, thorium is a bargain. Do you hear a bell tolling?

4. THE FLIGHT TO VALUE

Investors are shifting away from U.S. Dollar-based debt instruments and many publicly-traded equity securities, and into commodities which are either A) under the ground, B) growing out of the ground, or C) shiny, and small enough in size to fit in a home safe or in a drawer in a bank's safe. THORIUM ENERGY, INC. has plenty of thorium resting (and appreciating) comfortably in the ground. Do you hear a bell tolling?

5. THE SLOW REALIZATION OF THE MASSES

Ah, yes. The U.S. public, when not watching Oprah; the clock on the wall at the office; the posterior of the person immediately in front of him (or her); a stack of unpaid bills piling up on the living-room bureau; or some iPod-laden skateboarder zipping out in front of a speeding delivery truck, is watching change or the lack of change.

Many hithertofore patriotic, flagwaving, "let's get those terrorists, and give up our constitutional and civil rights if necessary," status-quo-contented, boss-hating, slogan-quoting, plastic bracelet-wearing, average (?) citizens (as well as an increasingly large contingent of illegal immigrants who are paradoxically protected by the same nation which agreed, by due process, to make it against the law for them to be here!) are emerging from a long hibernating season of denial to find themselves utterly destitute. Gasoline is expensive. Groceries are expensive. Factories are closing. Employment is evaporating. Foreclosures abound and too many homes are suddenly up for sale. And these folks are getting suspicious. And angry.

It is not just about climatic change. It is about a looming depression and a feeling of having been taken advantage of. They are starting to hear the bell tolling.

Thorium has left the ethereal and speculative world of the possible, and has ascended to the real world of the probable. Thorium - The Time Has Come.

Think Thorium.

THORIUM TURNS GREEN

Dear Readers:
Not literally. Figuratively.

Thorium, in its frequently occuring oxide state, is a dusty white to gray color. And while many metal pit pundits are forecasting that thorium will ultimately become as valuable as gold, or that it is "greening" in terms of its increasing value in dollars per ounce, those are not applicable here either.

No, what I am speaking about is a movement within the ranks of the environmentalists, a lobbying group of increasing financial power and influence, toward thorium as the environmentally-preferred choice over virtually every other fuel source. This is very good for Thorium Energy, Inc. because it lends additional credibility to what we have been saying for quite some time now...that thorium is cleaner than coal or any other combustible fuel source.

The nearest competitor, the ethanol contingent (Alcholics Unanimous), is quite clean when burned in its purest form as a fuel, but it is impractical in terms of its efficinecy and availability. If we eliminate ethanol as a competitor, than thorium, by default, is the cleanest and greenest alternative without peer.

Many posts ago, I wrote that burning coal produces more particulate (e.g., dangerously breathable) thorium than a thorium-powered reactor. It appears that the Green Lobby is arriving at the same conclusion.

The evidence of this shift is not only in the appearance of an increasing number of articles written by green bloggers and environmentalists in praise of thorium, but also in the sheer percentage of posts and articles (in all media) in which thorium is referenced favorably. In just these past three months, the percentage of these posts and articles which mention thorium in a favorable context has approximately doubled! In only three months!

While these numbers are estimates, they are indeed encouraging.

Our rich veins of Thorium in the Lemhi Pass District continue to accrue value...not unlike a fine wine, a Picasso original or a violin.

THORIUM - THE WINNER BY DEFAULT.

Dear Readers:
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Thorium is the only sensible choice for safe, timely, energy self-sufficiency.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
It is Thorium, or it is unfathomable failure. It is Thorium Energy, or no energy.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
As the United States economy slips into a profound and predictible recession, largely driven by the "reconstruction effort" in Iraq; the continued pursuit of terrorists straddling the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan; the failure of financial institutions to remain solvent due to irresponsible extensions of credit, poor investment decisions and poor management; the decline of the U.S. Dollar against the Euro, our enormous fiscal deficit, our inability to produce goods which are competitive in price anywhere in the world marketplace; the intolerable price of oil and gasoline... every politician is either avoiding the issue of, or lying about responsibility for the "energy crisis," and coming up with recycled, revisited and previously rejected (or just downright untenable) strategies (or even "strategeries").
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Here's is "why" of Thorium:
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
1. Oil, like heroin, is a substance controlled by cartels, operating in collusion. They completely control supply and price through audacious manipulation. This is a fact. There are no national allegiances involved. The gambit is simple - stick a needle in an arm (or a hose in a gas tank), and then keep jacking the price up once addiction has incapacitated the customer's ability to negotiate. Thorium.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
2. President Bush is advocating drilling for oil off of the coast of California, and in any other place that can support an oil rig without shifting a tectonic plate. Environmentally untenable. Politically funereal. It would take another 5 to 10 years to generate a sufficient influx of oil. All of this oil, and its transport, would, ironically be in the hands of the same bullies who have brought us to this point. He has the unmitigated testicular fortitude to refer to this as his proposed "oil remedy". This ploy is almost as stupid as it is obvious to any individual having enough functioning neurons to create a spark. There is no longer any separation of Oil and State -- I smell a conflict of interest. Thorium.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
3. Candidate John McCain would like to see 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030. That's gratuitous of him. They would have to be Thorium-powered, and we would have to get a few up and running post haste. Thorium.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
4. Bad weather, seasoned with quite a bit of greed have made corn (as well as some other fermentable crops) exceedingly expensive, rendering ethanol more expensive and less appealing, as either an oil additive or as an oil substitute. Should the Global warming trend continue, our crop production will become increasingly erratic, boosting prices into the fiscal stratosphere. A poor corn crop and we won't be able to recharge our cellular phones or our iPods! Like Gilligan's Island... Thorium.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
5. Even England is investigating the immediate viability (for mobilization within the next three to five years) of Thorium energy. The U.S. is paying a tremendous price for its slowness in "coming 'round" to Thorium awareness. It is comforting, but shocking, just the same, to have an increasing percentage of environmentalists in this country favoring Thorium.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Sadly, it takes an indolent and misinformed United States public a very long time to come around to any conclusion about anything...but the public is beginning to speak. Not directly, perhaps, but through NGOs, lobbyists, Political Action Committees, the Scientific Community, the Academic Community, the environmentalists - We need Thorium. And we need it now.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
If I were as mercenary as my mother has accused me of being, I would buy all of the Thorium resources and reserves immediately (if I could find a solvent bank to spot me the loan!), and I would simply wait for the inevitable.
LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Thorium is a wonderful choice. It is made even more so by the conclusion that there are no other viable alternatives.

"CLEAN" COAL - WHAT WILL THEY THINK OF NEXT?

Dear Readers:

The NEW YORK TIMES article which follows is almost as entertaining in its irony as it was completely predictable. Once again, President Bush and numerous other "rocket surgeons" have re-ignited the "clean coal" discussions, only to retreat.....again. The notion of 'clean' coal is about as tenable (and about as likely) as 'dry water' or 'hot snow'. Sometimes dirty is simply dirty -- in science, as well as in politics. Cast my vote for THORIUM, please.

THORIUM ENERGY, INC.: THANK YOU, ONE AND ALL!

Dear Visionaries and Other Readers:

In the last post, we spoke about thorium's having arrived at its Tipping Point.

Atomic energy is, without a doubt, the most commercially viable and readily utilizable source of power for the continuing needs of civilization. And thorium is, without a doubt, the safest, most viable non-fissile fuel to power the nuclear reactors that will be needed in both the near- and longer- term in order for nuclear reactors to function. Energy from thorium is a reality, and not a mere possibility.

Thorium Energy, Inc., a long-term, consistent proponent of safe nuclear power using thorium as a principal fuel, is quietly watching as a wonderful confluence of economic events leads the world to the Lemhi Valley Pass District, where our substantial resources and reserves of thorium ores enjoy market value appreciation even as they lie waiting in the ground. While our stock is privately held, we are experiencing an ever-increasing number of inquiries for purchases of either an interest in the Company, or an interest in its treasure trove of assets.

And Thorium Energy, Inc. has not brought this about through self-promotion.

We have a rather unusual assortment of allies to thank -- let's thank them now, shall we?:

BIG OIL -- As oil prices rose over $130 per barrel (although not due to a shortage of crude), and as transportation became prohibitively expensive, the prices of virtually all consumer goods and services have risen significantly. Despite the lack of any admissable evidence that there exists any mindful conspiracy to rape the U.S. consumers and businesses (the major oil companies are continuing to post record revenues and profits, while other "lesser sectors" like housing, automobile sales, and employment are being undermined and pilfered, in an "unexplainable coincidence"), there is enough fear (and perhaps a bit of anger as well) that the U.S. and its G-8 brethren have rapidly warmed<making us look at "Global Warming" in a positive context for a change> to the idea of taking a fossil-fuel alternative seriously;

NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL -- The United States Navy, through is highly-regarded post-graduate school (NPS Foundation), is now working diligently on adapting the Thorium-powered liquid floride thorium reactor (the LFTR) as a power source for naval vessels, from boomers to destroyers. It is interesting to note that this project is being co-sponsored and co-financed by NASA. Both organizations require a reliable, relatively inexpensive source of energy to move vast payloads over vast distances -- and both organizations use phraseology which incorporates "enable...operations for any size vessel even if fossil fuel prices rise dramatically." (emphasis is mine). One would be inclined to believe that the current precipitous rise in fossil fuel prices is being viewed by the military as a threat to its own operations, as well as a threat to our national security;

THORIUM POWER, LTD. (OTCBB: THPW), a publicly-traded company which apparently spends a great deal of its budget on public relations, politicking and newswire services, has announced that it has been retained as a consultant by the United Arab Emirates regarding that nation's nuclear energy policy and technology. One would believe that something odd is afoot when a major petroleum exporting country is investing in atomic power, and in particular, Thorium-based nuclear energy, for its domestic needs. In our view, this signifies that A) even the oil-rich countries may envision an end to their reign of supremacy and are preparing for this eventuality, and B) the oil-rich countries view thorium energy production technology as a hedge against blow-back from their non-oil-producing counterparts;

CHINA, CANADA and SOUTH KOREA -- and a host of other nations which are entering into co-ventures for the construction of thorium-powered nuclear plants to provide for their futures;

INDIA -- Which has been very aggressive and industrious in its development of thorium-powered reactors, and which declared itself "energy independent" just a few weeks ago, and, in so doing, sent out a loud wake-up call to the rest of the world. Now, the race is on;

KIRK SORENSEN -- This fellow has authored numerous scientifically-oriented and compelling articles about thorium's energy production potential. He has been a vociferous and prolific proponent of the LFTR and the use of thorium-powered nuclear reactors for quite some time. I believe that his persistent enthusiasm and quality coverage of thorium-related topics has helped to ignite a great deal of interest in thorium as the "energy alternative of choice" amongst a great number of people. Ironically, he also has the perfect name for a thorium advocate. On a serious note, thank you for your contribution, Kirk.

TERRORISTS AND FANATICS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD -- Indirectly (at least I like to think so), terrorists, fanatics and other species of nuts have simultaneously helped drive up the price of petroleum, while helping to scare the entire "western" world away from Uranium for fear of its use in "dirty" but highly potent small-sized nuclear weapons. Complicating matters, there are a number of people (some amount in excess of one hundred, I'd wager) who have come to believe that at least a portion of ill-gotten oil profits have actually been routed to various terrorist groups to finance their training, armament and evil doings. In an inevitable backlash, nations are seeking freedom from the yoke of fossil fuels, and are actually moving in the direction of atomic energy and stoking up the nuclear reactors...but using thorium as the major raw fuel component instead of the more dangerous Uranium. It's hard to stifle a grin when you realize that thorium power is likely the ideal weapon in a bloodless war against these lunatics.

It is a wonderful feeling when your prediction comes true...It has got to be almost as thrilling as when your oil-laden tanker comes in to port, and domestic gasoline prices are $4.14 per gallon at the pumps. Ah, the glorium of thorium!

--THORIUM ENERGY, INC.

LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

p.s. The picture in the upper right-hand corner of this posting is either a gear or a screw. It is all a matter of perspective. Then again, perpective is largely governed by which side of the device that you are on.

THORIUM'S TIPPING POINT IS HERE

BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS:

  1. Crude oil has exceeded $125 US per barrel;
  2. Gasoline prices at the pump in the US are exceeding $4.00 US per gallon;
  3. The US is leading its G-8 counterparts into a serious recession, while oil companies are reporting their most enormous profits in history...Westernized nations are becoming extraordinarily suspicious of this obvious disparity;
  4. India has begun enjoying the benefits of Thorium-based atomic energy and has publicly declared itself "Energy Independent" -- every nation in the world is taking notice;
  5. China, is running low on its own domestic oil reserves, as well as on reserves of the Rare Earth Elements - it is seeking sanctuary inThorium;
  6. In addition to China, Canada, South Korea, Sweden (albeit amidst some confusion), reliable rumor has it that Germany and the EU nations are quietly but quickly requesting more data regarding the availability of Thorium worldwide, and on its most efficient configuration in reactors;
  7. Canada and a number of other countries are proposing putting certain restrictions on the ownership, sale and shipment of domestic Thorium for fear of A) domestic depletion through export, and B) market speculation driving the prices wildly upward (not unlike the oil phenomenon). Smart speculators are futurists -- if governments want to limit speculation, you can be certain that the speculators are onto something. Prices rise on the mere anticipation of increasing prices and future price controls. I say thank you to our Northern Neighbors. Eh? You are helping to increase the value of Thorium holdings throughout the world;
  8. Environmentalists worldwide are becoming less and less enamored of coal, and are coming out against coal, gas and other combustible fuels because of their tremendous output of pollution, greenhouse gases, neurotoxins, carcinogens and of course...their significant contribution to Global Warming. Al Gore, THORIUM ENERGY, INC. is grateful;
  9. For reasons of Homeland Security and anti-terrorism, fissile quantities of Uranium are now seen as a threat to the safety of the world. Thorium is the only viable, safely transportable alternative to Uranium for utilization in the peaceful production of energy;
  10. The scientific community throughout the world is coming out with warnings that solar power is far too inefficient at present to be considered a large-scale energy source. Going further, experts are estimating that the technology required to make solar energy viable may be five to ten years away;
  11. Several G-8 based oil and energy companies have made inquiries into Thorium reactor technology -- my guess (as a bit of a cynic sometimes) is that they would like to get in early to either dominate and exploit it, or to "bury it";
  12. Searches conducted regarding Thorium on the top 50 ranked search engines have doubled during the course of this past 45-day period.
  13. Legislation (Reid-Hatch) favoring Thorium ("favoring" means acknowledging its inevitable use by regulating certain aspects of its anticipated use) is picking up legislative and populist momentum. People are being crushed under barrels of oil, and the politicians and legislators are being responsive to their constituents, largely because they A) fear a lynching, and B) they love public service and would be interested in keeping their jobs through re-election;

At THORIUM ENERGY, INC., we are receiving an increasing volume of inquiries regarding our Company's plans (we are not going public), and regarding the possibility of purchasing all or part of the Company or its assets. It is wonderful to be popular.

And now for our featured article:

THORIUM HAS REACHED ITS TIPPING POINT

It has done so far more rapidly than even the most ardent proponents and optimistic commodities speculators would have dared to dream. At lunch today, I overheard a gentleman utter, rather wistfully (I am paraphrasing him here with a chain of his original expletives deleted...you have to also do your best at imagining an extreme New York accent, and the accompanying hand waving and other bodily gesticulations), "I wish they had a Thorium Exchange. Who would ever have thought this could happen? I'm reading the papers, y'know, and it's in the news everywhere. Two, three months ago, I didn't know what the stuff was!"

A confluence of economic, technological and political factors have made the once unthinkable into the most favored. Thorium-fueled reactors have become a practical, demonstrated reality. Mark today's date on your calendars -- it is the day when skeptics had to pay up on their bets, and when the politically astute were switching postures and quitely changing dance partners. But first: an historical perspective.

Typically, the major oil companies, in greedy tandem with OPEC, have always counted on the civilized world's absolute dependence upon fossil fuels to support periodic spikes in the price of oil. It happened in the 1970's, the 1980's and it is happening now. These power players had counted upon the prevalent inelasticity of consumer and industrial demand to allow them to keep raising the bar. The world was (and still is, at least for the time-being), oil-dependent.The suppliers would rejoice at the news that nations were defensively stockpiling oil reserves, and trying to "conserve energy." From the longer-range perspective, this only validated the fact that these consumer nations were entrenched in oil dependency, and weren't looking for an alternative. Ultimately, it just signaled that the demand for oil would continue to climb.

When prices spiked, there would be some angry but theoretical talk about finding "alternatives" and becoming "energy self-sufficient," but as the prices came down after the spike period, all was well again, and it seemed that the public settled in nicely to a new oil price, and lower gasoline prices. Of course, after each spike, the prices "settled" at a point significantly higher than where they had been prior to the spike.

And there was always an "explanation" for the spike: trouble in the Straits Of Hormuz; political instabilities and wars in the middle east; declines in production due to sabotage and rebellion. Untrue, but not easily proven false. No self-respecting oil sheikh ever took methane-powered vehicles, or hybrids seriously. Nor did they pay attention to talks of ethanol additives, hydroelectric power, solar energy and wind power. These folks (both the OPEC Ministers and their Western counterparts) were astute students of human nature. They knew that their customers (their quarry) were still sold on petroleum, and that inertia would keep these other fledgling technologies from flying out of the nest.

Nuclear power always posed more than a bit of a threat, since it actually worked, but many well-intended but seriously misguided persons right here in the consumer camp were terrified of nuclear disasters. And admittedly, there were a few terrible disasters, largely caused by human error. Hence, with protesters picketing the reactors, and with politicians seeking to allay the fears of their constituents, the lube job continued, unabated. And the fear of uranium-powered weapons in the hands of terrorists has been aggressively fostered by the United States security experts. Naturally, this country's traditional allies bought in. Remember Tony Blair? Colin Powell? Yellow Cake? Remember "WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION"?

The irony is that the people whom we seem to fear most (the terrorists, and other monsters under the bed) are scaring us away from Uranium power, while their cousins hold us captive with an oil oligopoly. It would seem to be a very profitable family business. Rather reminiscent, I think, of the age-old "protection racket" scheme.

Their only mistakes were in 1) gouging too deeply despite the U.S.' tacit control over more and more oil territory and production in Iraq and elsewhere, and 2) not paying enough attention to Thorium.

"And the truth shall set you free": Thorium reactors work. Thorium is the new oil. Thorium is the key to energy independence.

U.S. LEGISLATORS BACKING PRO-THORIUM BILL

Nuclear energy is, at present, the only viable large scale alternative to either continued fossil-fuel dependency (the OPEC stranglehold, in conjuction with "Big Oil") or to conventional Uranium-powered reactors. Uranium has two common-sense disadvantages: 1) the public has been beseiged by media articles touting the hazards of transuranic waste and the likelihood of the dreaded "Homer Simpson" meltdown or leak scenario, and 2) the supply of Uranium is rapidly dwindling -- it is a depletable resource with a limited useful half-life. Thorium is obviously safer, more plentiful, and available in significant concentrations in the Lemhi Valley District here in the United States. Thorium Energy, Inc. is the single largest claimholder.

In simplistic terms, the bill (which is in the process of being finalized and which has a great deal of political weight behind it), being championed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senator Orrin Hatch, will not only benefit America's efforts toward energy self-suffiency, but will serve to benefit the home states of these two legislators economically, and will address concerns held by many parties, both domestically and internationally, that we utilize a basic fuel source which can not be readily converted to weaponry in the hands of a nation or a terrorist radical organization having an interest in wreaking havoc throughout the civilized world.

In terms of the immediate benefits of the passing of the proposed bill, THORIUM ENERGY'S holdings would likely increase by a significant multiple in value. Just on the increasing media atention being paid to proposed pro-thorium legislation, offers from accredited investors for large blocks of the Company's holdings are coming in in greater numbers, with increasing bids.

A recent article which appeared in ENERGY WASHINGTON WEEK will be of great interest:

Reid Eyes Backing Bill To Encourage Thorium Fuel In Nuclear Power
_______________________________________________
Date: April 16, 2008 -

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) may add his support to a bill that would encourage the use of thorium fuel in nuclear power reactors as a way to promote an expansion of nuclear power while addressing nonproliferation concerns. Proponents of a thorium fuel cycle argue it is a superior fuel choice to currently used uranium because it is resistant to weapons proliferation, produces far less radioactive waste, and breaks down weapons grade plutonium to produce power. Thorium fuel advocates are also highlighting these attributes to the environmental community, in hopes of getting support from organizations that have been wary of expanded nuclear power.

A spokesperson for Reid said the senator has communicated with Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), who reportedly has drafted potential legislation. Although final decisions have not been made on the content of a Reid-Hatch bill, Sen. Hatch has a specific proposal in mind which may provide the basis for a plan that Reid would support.

“Reid, at Sen. Hatch’s urging, is generally considering supporting legislation to promote the use of thorium instead of uranium,” the spokesperson said. “No decisions have been reached on possible introduction, content or timing.”
Congressional sources say that a thorium fuel cycle is particularly appealing to Reid because the reduced radioactive waste could ease pressure to open the Yucca mountain repository, which is located in Reid’s home state of Nevada. Reid has long fought efforts to develop the storage site.

Sen. Hatch has drafted legislation that would direct the NRC to craft regulations for a thorium fueled nuclear reactor. Separate offices would be created at both the NRC and the DOE to regulate the thorium facilities. The offices would also develop recommendations on how the Secretary of Energy could encourage domestic and foreign power providers to use thorium in reactors, thereby taking the place of uranium fueled reactors which produce plutonium that can be used for nuclear weapons.

In addition, the draft bill calls on the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory to carry out various projects that would demonstrate thorium fueled nuclear power generation.

A source in Hatch’s office says the bill does not necessarily create incentives for the use of thorium, but rather opens the door for the fuel if commercial forces want to deploy it. “It could be the future for nuclear power,” the source said. A thorium fueled reactor has four advantages over a reactor operating with uranium. It requires plutonium to trigger the initial reactions and thereby acts as a non-proliferation agent. Unlike uranium reactors, thorium fueled reactors don’t produce plutonium that can be used in weapons. The draft bill notes that thorium resources are also more available than uranium. Finally, a thorium fueled reactor produces about one third the waste produced from a similar uranium fueled reactor, easing storage and disposal concerns.

An industry source who supports the Hatch proposal said he requested that Reid delay introduction of any bill in order to buy time to court the environmental community, which tends to oppose federal subsidies for nuclear power. The source hopes the benefits of thorium will bring environmentalists on board.

A source with the Natural Resources Defense Council said that a thorium cycle is preferable to a uranium cycle for the non-proliferation and waste reasons, but was not aware of any pending legislation.

The industry source views the Hatch proposal as one that would ensure that the NRC is adequately staffed and has the ability to license a reactor fueled with thorium. The CANDU reactor, which is used in Canada and abroad typically uses uranium but can switch to thorium fuel without major changes to the reactor. However, reactors in the United States would need to be modified to use thorium. The source believes that were thorium to be used in the U.S., existing reactors would be modified before dedicated thorium reactors would ever be built. -- Will Harrington

As mentioned many times on this blog, all roads lead to Thorium. And this looks like the fastest road to our preferred destination.
